the owner, chef & firebender
Dorian Canty worked for a Teppanyaki restaurant for two years practicing all day and night to master his craft as a chef. In 2018, he lost his stepfather, Kevin, to a stroke and his world turned upside down. He had to learn how to live without someone he had loved and counted on; someone who inspired and pushed him to keep going. Dorian found himself struggling to make ends meet, facing hardship, homelessness and dropped out of school. He knew this was not what his stepfather wanted for him and knew he had to make a change.
When quarantine happened, he took a step in faith and started his business, Kavi's Hibachi Grill. "My step-father, Kavi, always emphasized to me how important it was for a man to have something of his own. I watched him work harder than anyone I knew and that inspired me to start my business. I now get to honor a man with good work ethic and an even better outlook on life because of what he instilled in me."
Kavi's Hibachi Grill started as a test run with his roommates and the word spread online and people went crazy for the idea of having a personal hibachi experience in their own home/workplace. Kavi's opened up officially in 2020 and within three months of business, Dorian was booked to cook for Chauncey Billups, Cody Latimer, Orlando Franklin and many other customer's and businesses. Who wouldn't want their own private chef cooking hibachi in the comfort of their own home?!
Chef Dorian has now taken another step in faith and has opened a hibachi food truck in the Denver-Metro Area since May of 2022.
